Arthur L. Gellert was born and raised in Poughkeepsie. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Union College and his Juris Doctor degree from Albany Law School of Union University. Mr. Gellert’s practice is concentrated in commercial transactions, including real estate and banking, as well as estate planning and trust and estate administration and advising professional practices.
At present, Mr. Gellert serves the State of New York as a commissioner of the State Park, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commission, Taconic Region. He is a member of the Committee on Character and Fitness for the Second Judicial Department.
Recently, Mr. Gellert served as a Board member of the Dutchess Community College Association, Inc. and of Premier Cares Foundation.
Mr. Gellert has served as a member of the Boards of Directors of Bankers Trust Company of the Hudson Valley, N.A. and Barclays Bank of New York, N.A., as a member of the Examining Committee and chairman of the Trust Audit Committee.
Mr. Gellert is a past-president of the Dutchess County Bar Association. He was the recipient of the first Distinguished Contribution Award by the Dutchess County Bar Association (2006) and received the annual award from the Community Foundation of Dutchess County for community service (2008), and from Friends of Mills Mansion (2013) for his work in historic preservation.
He has served the profession and the community as Chair of the Board of the Community Foundation of Dutchess County, the Special Committee of the New York State Bar Association on Procedures for Judicial Discipline, Chair of the Dutchess County Bar Association Grievance Committee, and a member of the Ninth Judicial District Grievance Committee. He is a former member of the House of Delegates and Nominating Committee of the New York State Bar Association, Director of the Poughkeepsie Area Chamber of Commerce, the Salvation Army Advisory Board, Treasurer of the Poughkeepsie Tennis Club, Chair of the Lawyers Division of the United Way, member of the Board of the Hudson Valley Stadium Corporation, member of the Advisory Board of SCORE and Commissioner of the State Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial Commission.
